Kiro enters public preview
Kiro, AWS’s new AI-powered IDE, is now in public preview, bringing spec-driven development to life.

Kiro – an AI IDE by Amazon Web Services (AWS) – is now in public preview!
We’ve had early access to Kiro for the past few weeks, and it’s been exciting to see a tool that puts requirements → design → build at the center of the development process. This makes spec-driven development a standout feature - turning ideas into structured, versioned specs with clear requirements, design, and tasks that stay in sync with your code.
As our CTO Rob Greenwood put it:
“Most AI tools focus on code generation. What’s refreshing about Kiro is that it focuses on planning - making the design and spec phase a natural part of the development workflow.”
Kiro also introduces AI agent hooks - background agents that help with everyday tasks like writing tests, updating documentation, and checking for security issues - all in real time as you code. By bridging the gap between 'vibe coding' and production-grade software, Kiro supports better workflows without breaking your flow.
Now that it's live, you can give it a try here: https://kiro.dev
